Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, joined world leaders and thousands of Gabonese citizens on Saturday to witness the inauguration of Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema as the President of Gabon.
President Nguema was officially sworn in following his victory in the April 12, 2025, presidential election, where he triumphed over seven other candidates. His election marks a significant milestone for the Central African nation after serving as interim president for twenty months following the ouster of former President Ali Bongo.
The colorful inauguration ceremony took place at the Stade de l’Amitié Sino-Gabonaise in Libreville and featured military parades, a ceremonial march-past, and vibrant displays of Gabon’s cultural heritage.
Vice President Shettima was accompanied on the brief diplomatic trip by Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and representative of Akko Federal Constituency in Gombe State, as well as Dr. Aliyu Modibbo, Special Adviser to the President on General Duties (Office of the Vice President).
The visit underscores Nigeria’s continued commitment to regional cooperation and support for democratic transitions across the African continent.
