$1.1 Billion Green Imperative Project Launches to Boost Nigeria’s Agriculture and Food Security

Vice President Kashim Shettima has applauded the launch of the commercial phase of the $1.1 billion Green Imperative Project (GIP), describing it as a transformative initiative for Nigeria’s food security and agricultural development.

Speaking at the event, Shettima highlighted that after six years of planning, this partnership with Brazil aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision to revolutionize agriculture and harness private-sector potential.

“As Africa’s largest agricultural initiative, the GIP will empower small-scale farmers, boost food production, and integrate them into thriving value chains. This initiative perfectly aligns with our administration’s economic goals, driving progress and enhancing investor confidence,” he stated.

Acknowledging the delay in its implementation, Shettima emphasized that Nigeria is now taking a bold step forward, with 2025 set to be a landmark year for food security. He commended the Ministers of Agriculture, Finance, Justice, and Foreign Affairs, as well as other stakeholders, for their commitment to making the project a reality.

“Together, we are building a stronger, self-reliant Nigeria,” the Vice President concluded.
