Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi: A Visionary Leader in Education

Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi is a distinguished academic, sailor, and administrator, born on April 5, 1965, in Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger State, Nigeria. His educational journey began at Central Primary School Wushishi (1973-1979) and continued at Government Science College Izom, where he completed his secondary education (1979-1984).

Driven by a passion for knowledge, he earned his Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from Niger State College of Education in 1987, followed by Naval Training at Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Akaso, Port Harcourt in 1988. He later pursued higher education at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, where he received his First Degree in Science Education (1998), a Master’s Degree (2001), and a Ph.D. with a focus on Chemistry (2005).

Professor Wushishi began his academic career as a lecturer at Usmanu Danfodiyo University from April 2004 to August 2008. He then joined the Federal University of Technology, Minna, where he was appointed Associate Professor in 2014 and held various leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Science Education. Additionally, he served as Head of the Department at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, during a sabbatical from 2015 to 2017.

On July 12, 2021, Professor Wushishi was appointed Registrar/Chief Executive of the National ExaminationAs Council (NECO). His impressive scholarly contributions include over 70 journal articles, active participation in more than 30 university boards and committees, and roles as Sub-Dean of the School of Science and Science Education at FUT Minna and Vice-Chairperson of ASUU FUT Minna. He has also served as a visiting professor and external examiner at various institutions, including the University of South Africa.

An influential figure in academia, Professor Wushishi is a patron of numerous student associations and has received over 47 awards from reputable institutions both in Nigeria and abroad. His articulate and logical discourse captivates audiences, while his commitment to facts and listening sets him apart as a respected leader.

Dedicated to elevating NECO to an internationally recognized examination body, Professor Wushishi has already initiated significant reforms aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. As a pragmatic and accomplished administrator, he is poised to make lasting contributions to the advancement of Nigeria’s educational system.

Outside his professional pursuits, Professor Wushishi is happily married and blessed with children.
