President Bola Tinubu is leading in the transformation in the health sector of Nigeria. According
to the minister of health and social welfare, Muhammad Pate, the recent groundbreaking ceremony held for construction of 10 Medserve Oncology and medical diagnostic centers at the
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi is a sign of commitment coming from this administration’s pursuit to better the health situation of the country. With President Tinubu at the helm of the country, the health sector has realized developments that seemed to be previously unattainable in a one year period. She praised the president for his commitment towards proffering solutions to the prevailing health crisis.
The Pate explained that in the course of President Tinubu’s tenure, the country’s health system had implemented undertakings resulting in setting the record straight of the country’s healthcare system. These undertakings have involved the implementation of various projects, also aimed at providing.
My attention was on one key area: infrastructural development. These commitment areas are exemplified through the commissioning of 10 major infrastructural projects, one of which is the building of Medserve oncology and diagnostic centers. The centers will begin operations within 12 months, thus putting the Nigerian landscape better off than ever before in terms of healthcare infrastructure.
Also central to these interventions is the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority. Pate said the NSIA is
aggressively pushing the completion of 6,000 more health centers. The funding secured is such that in the next 12- 18 months, all of these constructions would have to be completed, an action that will increase the outreach of health services further down to the communities.
Human infrastructure was visible in the manner in which President Tinubu’s administration sought retraining for healthcare professionals to improve service delivery. Pate further cited that at least 120,000 frontline health workers are in the queuing list for retraining, with so far at least 12,000 retrained, among them being from Bauchi. This is meant to strengthen the capability of the healthcare providers for proper efficiency of handling the expanding health needs in the country.
