Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, who has become popular in some quarters as the “Lioness of Bourdilon”, is a professional teacher; this noble background may have accounted for her compassion for young people. This compassion became public knowledge when she was the First Lady of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007. She founded the New Era foundation, through which she established a number of centers for “All Round Development” of young people; the center was also committed to environmental health and community service, involving young people.
As a teacher, she established “Spelling Bee” competition among secondary school students; the force of attraction for this competition was that the winner became the “Child Governor” of Lagos State for 24 hours; this way, as many children that won the competition every year, became governor of Lagos State.
She shared the passion of her husband in politics and became card carrying member of the same political party as the husband; as they journeyed through Alliance for Democracy, (AD), Alliance Congress
of Nigeria (ACN) until they landed at the All Progressive Congress (APC).
