In a groundbreaking step towards strengthening inter-agency collaboration, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at tackling economic sabotage and reducing the alarming rate of road traffic crashes across Nigeria.
Speaking at the engagement, the Executive Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, described the alliance as both timely and essential, noting that the mandates of the two agencies intersect in their shared responsibility of safeguarding Nigerian lives, resources, and economic stability.
Olukoyede explained that beyond its traditional role of fighting financial crimes, the EFCC is equally tasked with addressing economic sabotage, stressing that irresponsible practices within the transport sector have severe consequences for national growth and the welfare of citizens.
On his part, Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, underscored the urgency of the collaboration, pointing out that reckless driving and traffic law violations not only claim thousands of lives annually but also drain the nation’s economy. He insisted that road safety must be seen not just as a transportation issue but as a matter of national security and economic resilience.
“This partnership signals a united front against impunity on Nigerian roads,” Mohammed declared. “It is about saving lives, protecting national resources, and securing the economic future of the country.”
Both agencies stressed that the new alliance represents a fusion of integrity, law enforcement, and public safety, and pledged to jointly clamp down on economic crimes linked to the transport sector. Nigerians, they assured, should expect a more coordinated crackdown on reckless road users, transport operators who flout regulations, and all forms of economic sabotage that undermine national progress.
The message, they concluded, is unequivocal: those who endanger lives and compromise the nation’s economic stability will face the full weight of the law.
