Nasarawa Governor Declares War on Reckless Driving, Flags Off Operation Sanity

In one of the boldest moves towards restoring sanity on the nation’s transportation system through impactful partnership, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Engr Abdullahi Sule has taken a decisive stance against road traffic crashes by personally flagging off Operation Sanity, a comprehensive initiative aimed at taming the menace of reckless driving and promoting a culture of safety on the state’s roads.

With this special patrol operations tagged ‘Operation Sanity’, the Governor has joined other passionate Nigerians in declaring war on road traffic crashes in the country.

Speaking at the flag off of the campaign in Lafia the state capital on Tuesday 27 May, 2025, Governor Abdullahi warned that the era of reckless abandon on the roads is over, particularly in Nasarawa State. He revealed that the Government of Nasarawa State is committed to protecting the lives of its citizens and ensuring that the roads are safe for all users. As such, the State Government will through leverage on it’s public awareness campaign platforms to propagate this message while supporting FRSC on all fronts to enforce compliance of traffic laws.

The Governor further called on all residents of Nasarawa State to join hands with FRSC in this impactful operations against road traffic crashes, emphasising that road safety is a collective responsibility that acrues to everyone.

While explaining the intent purpose of the special patrol, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed said that ‘Operation Sanity’ is a multi-faceted approach in traffic enforcement that will engage stakeholders from various sectors, including transportation, law enforcement, and civil society towards achieving sanity on all roads.

According to him, the holistic approach will focus on enhancing road safety awareness through public enlightenment campaigns, strengthening enforcement of traffic regulations, conducting mobile Court sessions, as well as promoting a culture of safety among road users.

Concluding his remarks, the Corps Marshal also revealed that the commencement of Operation Sanity, Nasarawa State is poised to become a model for road safety in Nigeria. The initiative is expected to reduce the incidence of road traffic crashes, save lives, and promote economic development. As the state embarks on this journey to reclaim its roads, citizens can look forward to a brighter future, where road safety is paramount and the roads are safe for all users.

The Governor flagged off the special operation during a mobile Court session in company of the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service of the State, the Corps Marshal, and other members of the State Executive Council in lafia.
