Energy Commission of Nigeria Unveils Hybrid EV Charging Station in Abuja

By Suleiman Abdulmumin

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has launched a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station at its headquarters in Abuja, reinforcing the country’s push toward sustainable energy. The project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for a cleaner and greener Nigeria.

The charging station, inaugurated by ECN Director General Mustapha Abdullahi, runs on both solar power and the national grid, making it an efficient and eco-friendly solution. With a 20-kilowatt lithium battery, the facility can fully charge an electric vehicle in just 30 minutes and power up to four vehicles simultaneously.

Mustapha Abdullahi highlighted the initiative as part of ECN’s commitment to innovative and renewable energy solutions that will help reduce Nigeria’s carbon footprint. He also expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, and Mr. Audu Mustapha, CEO of the Electric Motor Vehicle Company, for their technical partnership on the project.

“This charging station represents a major step forward in Nigeria’s transition to clean energy. It not only supports electric mobility but also strengthens our resolve to build a sustainable energy future,” Mustapha Abdullahi stated.

The Hybrid EV Charging Station is expected to encourage electric vehicle adoption, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and contribute to global climate action efforts.
