IWD 2025: NUJ FCT Council Celebrates Resilience and Achievements of Women in Leadership

By Stella Oko-Esene

As the world marks International Women’s Day 2025, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council joins the global movement in recognizing the resilience, achievements, and contributions of women across all sectors.

This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” highlights the progress made in gender equality while emphasizing the need for continued efforts to break barriers and create opportunities for women.

Women in journalism, governance, and other professions continue to defy limitations, demonstrating that leadership is driven by competence, vision, and determination rather than gender. The NUJ FCT Council acknowledges the growing representation of women in decision-making roles and reaffirms its commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for female professionals.

The Council’s dedication to gender inclusivity is further reflected in the historic election of women into key leadership positions within the NUJ FCT Council. This milestone underscores the union’s commitment to ensuring that women are not only included but also empowered to lead and influence positive change in the media industry and beyond.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, the NUJ FCT Council calls on all stakeholders—government, media organizations, and civil society—to accelerate action in promoting gender equality, supporting women in leadership, and creating opportunities for the next generation of female leaders.

Together, we can build a more inclusive society where women’s contributions are recognized, their voices amplified, and their potential fully realized.
