TETFund Board of Trustees to Prioritize Education Sector Reforms, Says Masari

The newly inaugurated Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s public tertiary education system through the implementation of impactful programs. Speaking at the TETFund Auditorium in Abuja during the inauguration of the new BOT and the Governing Councils of several Federal Government tertiary institutions, Masari underscored the Board’s focus on driving educational reforms.

Masari, a former Governor of Katsina State, expressed his deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting the Board with the responsibility of overseeing the Fund. He commended the President for appointing individuals of high caliber to both the TETFund Board and the Governing Councils of tertiary institutions across the country. According to Masari, the experience and expertise of these appointees will be instrumental in transforming Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape.

In his address, Masari highlighted the need for Nigeria to make significant investments in education, stating that the nation could only realize its full potential through such investments. He emphasized that education is the foundation of national development, and any resources—whether financial, intellectual, or otherwise—invested in it are never wasted. “If this country can invest all it has in education, the nation will be better for it,” he remarked, adding that the Board would work tirelessly to ensure that TETFund focuses on improving the quality of education rather than simply awarding contracts.

Masari pledged that under his leadership, TETFund would position itself as an “education improvement agency” rather than a “contract awarding agency.” He stressed the importance of making TETFund’s interventions impactful by ensuring that funds are channeled toward meaningful educational projects and programs that would enhance teaching, research, and infrastructure in Nigeria’s public tertiary institutions.

The Chairman also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, who officiated the inauguration ceremony. He also thanked the heads of agencies and other key stakeholders who contributed to the successful inauguration event.

Masari’s commitment signals a renewed sense of purpose for TETFund, as the new BOT sets out to deliver on its mandate to enhance tertiary education in Nigeria. With the backing of the federal government and the dedication of the newly inaugurated board members and Governing Councils, the future of Nigeria’s education system looks promising. The Board has vowed to work closely with educational institutions and stakeholders to ensure that the projects and programs funded by TETFund have a lasting and positive impact on the nation’s educational infrastructure and output.

This marks a pivotal moment for TETFund as it embarks on a new chapter aimed at prioritizing education sector reforms, fostering innovation, and driving progress in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
