
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is the only purpose-built intervention Agency of the Federal Government under the Presidency whose mandate includes nurturing an appropriate and dynamic Science and Engineering infrastructure base for achieving home-initiated and home-sustained industrialization for Nigeria.
The vision of the Agency is to fuel Nigeria’s innovation for sustainable development, which includes the development of relevant processes, capital goods, and equipment necessary for job creation, national economic well-being, and progress. The Agency is focused on key areas of science and engineering development because any nation that aspires to attain socio-economic transformation must invest in them, to engender competitiveness.
NASENI is mandated to make available in the Nigerian market the primary and intermediate capital products required for machine and equipment design, fabrication, and mass production to provide an enabling environment for sustainable industrialization of the country. The Agency continues to make progress in Nigeria’s technological advancement, driving home-grown innovation and improving manufacturing capabilities.
The broad mandate areas include but are not restricted to Engineering Materials; Scientific equipment and components for education, research, and industry, communication equipment and computers; Engineering Accessories (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic); Engineering Design of components parts, plants, and processes; Power Equipment (generation, transmission, distribution, and prime mover); Mechanical Engineering tools (power tools, hand tools, cutting tools and machine tools); Prototype Development; Advanced Manufacturing Technology programmes; Advanced Materials and Nano Technology and New and Emerging Technologies.
Established by Decree No. 33 of 1992 as a first-stop government institution for technology development in Nigeria, NASENI’s primary target is to empower Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) through impartation of technologies, engineering principles and practices for the production of equipment that will meet international standards as well as sustenance of flourishing local capital goods or industry.
There are 10 functional development institutes of NASENI established in various parts of the country with their mono-mandates and one limited liability company, ‘NASENI Solar Energy Limited’ (NSEL), a 22 Watts production and manufacturing plant for solar panel and its accessories.
