Revolutionising Nigeria’s Film Industry: Sanwo-Olu’s Lagos Film City Project in focus

Lagos, the centre of excellence was at it again; its Governor, Jide Sanwo-Olu set-out to assert its dominance of the entertainment industry in Nigeria and conquer the entertainment scene in rest of Africa. This was evident in the flag-off of a proposed construction of $100 million Lagos film city project, which would sit on a vast stretch of 100 hectares of land situated at Ikosin Ejinrin, in the Epe local government council area of the state.

The objective, according to the Special Assistant to the Governor, Jibril Gawat, was to create a hub for film
production, visual effects, scripting, cenematography, editing, photography and all the ancillary services that support film production making process; adding that the project was designed to serve as an all-in one facility with leisure, entertainment and learning infrastructure. Jibril Gawat said the proposed Lagos film city would be the biggest in Africa both in content and quality of its offerings to the creative industry. Premium Times quoted Gawat, saying that “ the coming on stream of the Lagos film city is a further testament of the commitment of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration to invest in infrastructure and create an enabling environment for the global new economy to strive in Lagos state.”
